About me

Hello! I’m Michel Stuyts, a GIS specialist, open-source advocate, and blogger based in Belgium. I spend my days exploring the intersection of maps, data, code, and community.

What I Do

GIS & Geospatial Consultancy

I work as a GIS consultant at Geo-IT BV, where I support local governments in Flanders.

Open-Source Developer & Plugin Author

Over the years, I’ve built and maintained several QGIS plugins, including PluginLoadTimes and ZoomToBelgium.

I also contribute to various geospatial projects and host a portfolio of GIS code on Codeberg.

Editor & Curator of GeoNe.ws

I founded and maintain GeoNe.ws, a website and social media accounts that gather GIS, geospatial, and geodata news from around the world.

Blogger & Educator

I run several content projects:

Through these, I share tutorials, reflections, and workflow insights to help others get more out of GIS tools.

Community & Advocacy

As a Charter Member of OSGeo and part of the Belgian open-source GIS community, I enjoy collaborating, organizing, and helping others get started in mapping.

You can find more about my community involvement on osgeo.org.
